DETROIT, Mich. (March 27, 2014) — The best hitter in baseball just got paid in a historic way.
ESPN and CBS Sports are reporting that Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers have agreed to a new 10-year contract that will pay the two-time defending AL MVP just under $300 million, a new MLB record.
Cabrera, 30, has also won the AL batting title the last three seasons. He hit a career-best .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBI for the Tigers in 2013. He became the first player since 1967 to win the Triple Crown when he hit .330 with 44 homers and 139 RBI in 2012.
