PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (March 24, 2014) — A 43-year-old man was arrested and taken to jail after his daughter called police and said he had fired a gun inside a home.

The incident happened on March 23 around 8 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Briar’s Farm Lane in the Carriage Hills neighborhood. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the caller’s mother was still inside the home, and the girl was concerned for her mother’s safety because her parents had been arguing.

When deputies got to the home, two minors got out of the house. Their mother got out a short time later and said that her husband and an adult daughter were still inside. Police say she confirmed that her husband fired shots in the house.

Police tried to contact the man without success. A perimeter was set up around the house, and the Battle Creek City Police Department’s Emergency Response Team arrived to the scene to assist. The team tried to make contact with the man again via loud speaker.

He eventually came out of the house on his own and was taken to the Calhoun County Jail for reckless/careless discharge of a weapon.

No one was injured, and the man’s name has been withheld pending arraignment.
