MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (March 24, 2014) — The man who allegedly dragged a woman behind the vehicle he was driving after stealing her purse has been formally arraigned.

Arthur Lee Sheard Jr., 44, is charged with two counts of unarmed robbery, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office. He was charged as a fourth-time habitual offender, which increases the maximum penalty to life in prison.

The woman was loading up her vehicle March 21 in the parking lot of the Norton Shores Meijer when Sheard allegedly reached out from a car and grabbed her purse.

She was dragged behind the vehicle but let go when she was dragged into another parked vehicle, police said.

The woman suffered severe head injuries following the incident.  Her current condition is unknown.
