ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. – Charges were authorized against a 34-year-old woman who police say shot and killed a man during a domestic situation Thursday.
Maria Audrey-Louise Williams of Burr Oak was arrested and will be arraigned Friday afternoon for one count of open murder as well as one count of felony firearm, said the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. Williams spent Friday morning being questioned by detectives prior to her afternoon arraignment in which she will be formally charged.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office said the man who was killed was Dennis Brooks. Investigators said Williams killed him by a single gunshot wound to the head with a .38 caliber handgun.
The shooting victim was found Thursday evening near Farrand and Townline Roads, off M-66 north of Sturgis in Burr Oak Township. According to the Sturgis Journal, Brooks’ body was found along the side of the road.
An autopsy on Brooks’ body is scheduled Friday in Grand Rapids.
The St. Joseph County Major Crime Task Force is also working on the investigation.
