Man’s Body Found Within Hastings City Limits

BARRY COUNTY, Mich. – A death investigation is underway within the Hastings city limits after a man’s body was discovered near a walking trail.

The following news release was just emailed to FOX 17 from Hastings Police Chief Jerry Sarver.

At about 3:20 PM this afternoon, the Hastings Police were dispatched to a “man-down” call.  Dispatch reported that an unresponsive man was lying “face-down” in the snow, on the north  side of the foot bridge that crosses the Thornapple River in the area of Mill St. and Hanover St.  Upon arrival,  Officers discovered an individual lying near a park bench.  The unresponsive middle –aged male was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is underway at this time and still on-going.  There were no immediately obvious signs of trauma to the decedent.  The body has now been turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation into a cause of death.  Based upon some papers found- the body is believed to be a 53 yr. old Hastings area resident   A local man walking his dog spotted and reported the body.
