GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 14, 2014) — The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday on the city’s southeast side.

Police responded to the call at 9:30 p.m. in the area of Bates Street SE and Eastern Avenue SE. When they arrived at the scene, they found a male victim shot once in the back.

He was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police have no suspect information and no one is in custody at this time.

Earlier this week, FOX 17 reported Grand Rapids Police said the city has experienced no homicides since October 2013.  The department attributes the lower numbers to the colder weather this winter season.
