Bob Daniels Named WCHA Coach Of The Year

Posted

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (March 13, 2014) — It may seem like a simple formula: win a conference championship, be named Coach of the Year.

A Western Collegiate Hockey Association title merely skims the surface of Bob Daniels’ accomplishments of the 2013-2014 Ferris State hockey season.

The man who has led the Bulldogs for 22 years was named the WCHA’s top coach on Thursday, joined by five of his players on the all-conference team.

Ferris State set a new school record with a 16-game unbeaten streak during a stretch between October and January — and the Bulldogs currently lead the nation with 25 wins. The team went 14-0-1 at Ewigleben Arena in WHCA play on their way to a second conference title in three seasons.

Goalie C.J. Motte was named first-team all-conference. Forwards Garrett Thompson and Scott Czarnowczan are on the WCHA second team. Defenseman Kyle Binkley made the league’s third team, while Kyle Schempp was named to the conference all-freshman squad.

Ferris State opens WCHA tournament play Friday, hosting a best-of-three series against Bemidji State.
