GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 9, 2014) — Davenport University athletics has had a litany of All-Americans, conference titles, and national club champions across all its sports, but never an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national title winner.
Until now.
Sophomore high jumper Tor’i Brooks brought the Panthers’ first-ever NAIA title back to Grand Rapids with a 2.09-meter jump at the NAIA Indoor Championships on Friday in Geneva, Ohio. The East Kentwood graduate hit the same mark as two other jumpers, but didn’t fault until the bar was set to 2.12 meters – higher than all other competitors.
Brooks says his personal record is 2.13 meters.
