In this week’s special edition of Stretch of the Week Teri gives us the scoop on TRE, which can stand for Tension Releasing Exercise, or Trauma Releasing Exercise.
Created by a man named David Berceli, the exercises are being used to help people recover from stressful events like combat, or just release stress in their daily lives.
Tremors are initially induced by working the lower body until weakness sets in, but over time, some have become able to start the TRE’s just by lying down and assuming a butterfly stance. Practitioners often feel a sense of relaxation afterwards, others though get a rush of adrenaline.
