GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb. 26, 2014) – Those looking to adopt Foxy should find out this week if they will be taking her home.
Foxy was found abandoned and injured in a trash can back in early February by 18-year-old McKenzie Coleman from Grand Rapids. This week, police say Coleman admitted she made the entire story up.
She told police she had the dog for two or three weeks before bringing her to the shelter and she created the story because she didn’t want people to think she was a bad person. Police say they are not going to ask the Prosecutor to file charges.
After receiving about 50 applications, the Kent County Animal Shelter has pared the field to 20.
Those 20 prospective owners are getting a chance to meet the pup this week.
Because of the large number of qualified applicants, a lottery will likely be held to pick a home.
Kent County Animal Shelter spokeswoman Lisa LaPlante tells Fox 17 adoptions increased 20 percent the week Foxy was found as people who came in to see her ended up adopting other animals.
