OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich (February 22, 2014) – Authorities continue to investigate  a crash along eastbound I-96 near Coopersville late Friday night that involved a Ottawa County Sheriff’s police cruiser.

The crash happened along eastbound I-96 between the Coopersville and Nunica exits around 10:15 p.m. Officials said a deputy was at the scene to help a vehicle that needed to be towed. That’s when a driver, a 34-year-old man from Comstock Park,  lost control on the slick ice and hit the cruiser from behind.

FOX 17 has been told the deputy was treated for head and leg injuries and released from the hospital.

No other injures reported.

Authorities said the driver who slammed into the cruiser was cited.
