ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich. – Emergency crews are on the scene of a pileup on a stretch of U.S. 127 near Mt. Pleasant.

According to Michigan State Police, at least 30 vehicles were involved in several crashes in the northbound lanes of U.S. 127 at around noon Friday.  The pileup happened north of Blanchard Road in Coe Township.

“One of the vehicles involved is a fuel tanker that struck several vehicles.  Despite the conditions and the number of vehicles involved, there were only minor injuries reported,” stated a news release from Michigan State Police.

The highway is shut down indefinitely in both directions between M-20 to M-46.  U.S. 127 is expected to be closed for several more hours while the fuel tanker’s cargo is unloaded to another vehicle.  MSP said that there is not a fuel spill.

Hight winds Friday also shut down the Mackinac Bridge between Michigan’s peninsulas.
