PORTAGE, Mich. (Feb. 18, 2014) — A firefighter was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries early Tuesday morning, after being hurt while responding to an overnight house fire.

The call came in shortly after midnight for a fire at 1803 Pleasant Drive in Portage.  Crews saw flames showing in the corner of the home and started to get to work.  That’s when it was reported that oxygen tanks were inside the home, posing a danger to the firefighters.  They left the building and took a defensive approach to the fire.

During the course of the response, one firefighter suffered injuries for which he received treatment at a local hospital and was then released.  There was one resident inside at the time of the fire, but that individual made it out safely.

The fire was under control in about 45 minutes.  There is no word yet on a cause.
