Holland Garage Total Loss After Fire

HOLLAND, Mich. (Feb 16th, 2014)- A garage sustained heavy damage after a fire Sunday morning in Holland Township.

According to fire officials, the fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Bay Avenue. When fire crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the garage.

It took crews ten minutes to contain and extinguish the fire.

One resident sustained minor burns, but did not need medical treatment.  There were no other injuries.

The fire appears to be accidental, but Holland public safety officials are still investigating the exact cause. The garage and a vehicle parked inside were severely damaged and are considered a total losses. The home attached to the garage received some minor fire and smoke damage.

Damage costs are estimated around $50,000.

The Holland Department of Public Safety is requesting that residents do their best to keep fire hydrants clear and at a minimum identifiable. Although fire personnel were able to locate the area of hydrants for this incident, they were still unable to find the exact location.

Fire personnel were delayed while trying to locate the hydrant.
