PORTAGE, Mich (Feb. 13, 2014) – A resident at a Portage apartment building was transported to the hospital for treatment following an afternoon fire.

Public Safety Officers responded to the fire in the 800 block of Barrington Drive around 4 p.m.

The building itself houses four residential units.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes.  Portage Public Safety Assistant Fire Chief tells FOX17 crews were forced to dig out the fire hydrant nearby because it was buried in snow.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal.

The Oshtemo Township Fire Department, Texas Township Fire Department, Comstock Township Fire Department, South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety assisted on the scene and manning fire stations during the response.
