Battle Creek Ordered to Pay More Than $80,000 in Overtime After Federal Review

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (Feb. 11, 2014) –Battle Creek has been ordered to pay a total of $80,592.81 in overtime following a federal review from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The 265 people impacted by the decision are both current and former employees from various departments, according to a release from the city.   Battle Creek must make the overtime payments by Feb. 21.

The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division conducted an audit of city payment practices between Oct. 17, 2010 and Oct. 20, 2012 to check the city’s compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Affected employees will be notified when they can pick up their checks at City Hall.
