UPDATE: Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

KALAMAZOO, Mich (February 7, 2014) – New details have been released in what is now a deadly officer-involved shooting in the city of Kalamazoo.

The shooting took place in front of a home in the 100 block of Dutton Street at approximately 5:40 p.m.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley issued a release, stating officers attempted to contact an individual at that address in connection to an earlier criminal sexual conduct investigation.

When officers made contact with the individual at that address, the individual displayed a handgun and pointed it towards officers.  Investigators say in response to the immediate threat being presented, officers fired their service weapons striking the individual.

The individual fell and medical attention was immediately administered, but the individual was later pronounced dead.

An ongoing investigation is currently underway, and is in its initial stages according to a press release.

FOX17 earlier learnedthe officers involved were not injured.

A news conference has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, February 10th.
