CASNOVIA, Mich. — The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office says four people are confirmed dead and two others are injured, after a traffic accident that happened on Friday morning.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. near the round-about of Apple Ave (M-46) and Newaygo Road (M-37) in Casnovia Township. Apple Ave was shut down for more than 3 hours for the investigation.
In a live interview with FOX 17 News, officials said weather was likely a factor in the crash. It began with one vehicle spinning out. The occupants of that vehicle then witnessed an SUV also losing control. That SUV was then involved in a t-bone accident with a pickup truck. All four fatalities were within the SUV and all 4 were females. 2 others who were riding in the SUV were taken to the hospital, while 3 people in the pickup suffered minor injuries. A police officer and nurse who were both off duty at the time stopped at the scene to try and help the victims. It appears that at least 2 of them were not wearing seatbelts.
The victims have been identified as:
35-Year-Old Erika Ceja from Newaygo
45-year-old Angelica Magana-Ceja from Newaygo
35-year-old Teresa Alvarez from Newaygo
23-year-old Jessica Magana from Newaygo
The crash is still under investigation.
