GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapids woman is out of a coma after a severe assault in November.
Elizabeth Batchelder, 18, was in a coma since allegedly being attacked by her boyfriend Adam Phillips, 22, on the evening of Nov. 5
According to Batchelder’s grandmother, Jo Ann Smith, jury selection for Phillips’ trial is set to take place this week. Phillips is charged with attempted murder.
Batchelder’s family tells FOX 17 that Elizabeth came out of a coma just before Christmas. The family said that Batchelder is learning how to walk again and speak.
The family said that Batchelder does not remember anything within weeks of the attack.
Batchelder was pregnant at the time she was assaulted and the baby boy is said to be okay, and is expected to be delivered in mid-April.
Both Batchelder and Phillips have a 1-year-old daughter named Kyrie. Phillips is also the father of her unborn child.
