U.S. 31 Wednesday Morning

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. – Heavy lake effect snow caused dangerous driving conditions along the lakeshore Wednesday.

At one point, a multiple-vehicle crash involving a Norton Shores Police officer prompted authorities to close some lanes of U.S. 31 in Muskegon County Wednesday afternoon.  The northbound lanes of U.S. 31 at I-96 were closed at about 12:30 p.m., according to Michigan State Police.  Authorities re-opened the stretch just after 1:00 p.m.  The officer in the patrol car was not hurt, Norton Shores Police said.  The passenger in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the entire lakeshore until 7 a.m. Thursday morning.  FOX 17 Live Doppler Radar showed lake effect snow building from Holland to north of Muskegon.
