Winterfest And The Great Skate Kick Off This Weekend

01-14-14 Great Skate from 2013GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The sixth annual Winterfest kicks off Saturday at noon in Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids. The annual event celebrates winter across West Michigan with winter-themed activities from carriage rides, zoo animals, dog sled visits, and concluding with the Great Skate.

The 12th annual Great Skate tops off all the winter fun with a 24-hour fundraising drive to benefit the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation. The event features round-the-clock skating with Griffins players and coaches.

The Great Skate begins right after the Griffins home game Saturday night, and every hour a new Griffins player or coach will take the ice.

The event is free but donations are encouraged. Donations can be made at the Rosa Parks Ice Rink or through the Griffins FirstGiving page:
