Man Found Guilty in Muskegon County Jail Guard Assaults

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Terry Wesley Raap was found guilty Thursday of assaulting two Muskegon County jail guards during a failed escape attempt in August,according to Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson.

Raap, 27, was found guilty of one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, one count of attempted jail escape using violence and one count of being a prisoner in possession of a weapon.

The officers sustained non-life threatening injuries when Raap attacked them with a handmade club-type weapon Aug. 29.  He will be sentenced Feb. 24.

Raap was incarcerated in October 2012 for charges of operating a meth lab and is also a habitual offender.  He was also charged with assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer in October 2005.
