BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Twenty-seven full-time firefighters at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base will be cut this year.

According to a release from Col. Ron Wilson at the base, the firefighters will be gone by Sept. 30.

The decision was made by the National Guard Bureau, not the Michigan National Guard.

Wilson cites a lack of funds and “a mission change” as the reason for the terminations.

He also said that the cuts will not affect 26 Traditional Drill Status Guardsmen Firefighters who work at the base.
