GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man was charged Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman after breaking into her Grand Rapids apartment Jan. 1.
According to a police press release, the woman was woken up by the suspect, Jose Guadalupe Suarez-Cruz, just before 9 a.m. Jan. 1 in the bedroom of her 7th Street residence. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her and fled east toward Broadway Avenue.
Suarez-Cruz, 29, was arrested more than 12 hours later at a home in the 1500 block of Colorado Avenue SE. Several other people in the area allegedly observed or encountered him in their apartments, according to police.
Suarez-Cruz was arraigned Friday on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree home invasion. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
