WEST MICHIGAN — Winter Weather Advisories for Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren counties have been extended through midnight tonight as lake effect snow showers move back in this evening. Accumulations will be heaviest along the Lakeshore where 1 to 3 inches will be possible. Despite small snowfall amounts, the lake enhanced snow will likely create a large impact on travel. Snow showers will lessen visibilities and make roads slick especially along I-196 from Grand Rapids to South Haven tonight.
Snow will start to taper off after midnight and temperatures will fall into the low 20’s for the overnight hours. Quiet weather returns for Friday afternoon as temperatures begin a slight warming trend through the weekend. Temperatures will continue to warm above freezing by the first half of the weekend and allow for some much-needed melting of the ice.
The warm up will be short-lived however as arctic air moves back into the Great Lakes by the beginning of next week dropping temperatures into the single digits.
