HASTINGS, Mich. — A state of emergency has been declared in Barry County in the wake of last weekend’s ice storm.
The Barry County Emergency Management Department told FOX 17 that the emergency declaration attaches the county to the state and makes the county able to get state assistance quicker if they need it. Also, if any federal declaration should happen down the line, then Barry County would be attached to that.
As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, 11,198 customers in Barry County were still without power. Consumers Energy said it expects to have electrical service restored to all Barry County customers by midnight Saturday.
