GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — About 300 people were expected to take park in Mel Trotter Ministries’ Christmas day meal. Gift bags were also handed out to those in need.
“We are just serving them a Christmas meal and just providing a place for them to get out of the cold and get out of the snow,” said Melissa Blanchard with Mel Trotter Ministries.
Mary Ware wasn’t just enjoying a meal from Mel Trotter Ministries, she has also been staying at the facility while she looks for a job.
“The food is great. I actually feel like Ester who came into the king’s table to be served and eat. The meal is wonderful,” said Ware.
Ware said that Mel Trotter does more for people in need than just provide a warm meal, especially during the winter months.
“With the weather being cold, no one had to stay outside if they came here. There is so much. I’m getting emotional talking about it because it really touches my heart,” said Ware.
The Love family spent their Christmas afternoon volunteering their time to make sure everyone was served.
The family hopes other families like them also remember the importance of giving back to those in need.
“Between the guests that come and us the staff, it’s a super exciting time just to come together and kind of just really focus on what Christmas is really about. It’s awesome to have volunteers volunteering their time that they could be spending with their families as well,” said Blanchard.
