COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – ‘Anchorman 2’ is a highly anticipated sequel with a good number of cameos including a West Michigan landmark of sorts.
The movie hasn’t even been in in theaters for 24 hours but the West Michigan Whitecaps are planning for the future when it comes to its role in the major motion picture.
The movie has been widely promoted as of late, and producers are hopeful it will live up to the success of the first film. Part of the movie was kept under tight wraps and it has to do with a West Michigan connection.
The entire front office of the West Michigan Whitecaps baseball team is now planning a field trip to the movie theater some time soon. After a FOX 17 tweet from our own Mitch Fick broke the news that the Whitecaps are featured in the movie.
Keith Roelfsema, the promotions manager for the Whitecaps, said it was a surprise to him to find out his team was in the film.
“We had no idea,” he said. “And so we got the tweets and didn’t know what was going on. We thought someone was pulling a prank or something and then we did a little research and found that it was actually us in the video.”
Roelfsema said, “There was a company that came out a couple years ago and did some B-roll shooting of baseball games to sell movies for this exact scenario. So then we contacted our guy and he said the movie was under a different name so we had no idea it was that movie and then the rest is history.”
The Whitecaps said they are happy to be included in the movie and plan to capitalize on the fame in the future.
“A home-run is a pretty good instance for a Champ, ‘Whammy!’ Every so often. But really, if we are the only baseball team that is shown in there we can take advantage of this.”
The movie is now running in theaters near you.
