PORTAGE, Mich. — The man who was shot by a Portage police officer after allegedly stabbing a woman was released from the hospital and taken to jail Tuesday night.
According to Portage officials, the string of events started at around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Romence Road and Constitution Boulevard. The man allegedly stabbed a woman in a vehicle and then fled on foot.
He was shot by an officer near Crossroads Village Apartments, 6600 Constitution Blvd.
After being treated at a local hospital, he was taken to jail on felony assault charges. He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday, and will not be identified until that time.
The Portage officer is on paid administrative leave while Michigan State Police investigate the shooting.
