PORTAGE, Mich. — A Portage officer was involved in a shooting Tuesday near Crossroads Village Apartments, 6600 Constitution Blvd.

The incident happened at 12:45 p.m. while the officer was attempting to apprehend a stabbing suspect, according to Portage officials.  The man allegedly stabbed a woman inside a car at the intersection of Romence Road and Constitution before fleeing.

The officer is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by Michigan State Police.

Officials would not say what condition the suspect or the victim were in during a Tuesday press conference, but they did say that the two know each other.
