KALAMAZOO, Mich. — New York Yankees superstar Derek Jeter was back in Kalamazoo today to surprise about 200 children at his annual Turn 2 Holiday Express.
Jeter spoke to the media beforehand and had nothing but good things to say about his now former teammate Joba Chamberlain. Chamberlain, a right-handed relief pitcher, has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. Jeter said Tigers fans will enjoy Chamberlain.
Jeter did not answer any other sports related questions. Event coordinators requested that questions be about the night’s festivities.
The event was being held at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. It was intended to reward young people in the Turn 2 Foundation’s Signature Programs who are demonstrating positive behavior, academic excellence, and leadership qualities in school and their communities. Each child received a special holiday gift bag containing items generously donated by the New York Yankees and sponsors of the Turn 2 Foundation.
