HOLLAND, Mich. – Funeral arrangements have been set for Josh Hoppe, the Hamilton high school teacher who died in a crash Wednesday morning on M-40.

According to his obituary the funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd. in Holland.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. also at Christ Memorial Church. Arrangements are by Mulder Chapel-Dykstra Funeral Homes.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. when Hoppe’s car was trapped under a semi-truck south of I-196 when he was on the way to an early morning staff meeting.

Hoppe, 30, was a government teacher and a big part of the Hamilton community. He thought of teaching as more of a passion than a job and believed in children and their opportunity to grow, according to David Tebo, the school’s superintendent.

“You always are thankful for teachers that go beyond life in the classroom and Josh lived that every day,” said Doug Braschler, the high school principal.

Hoppe was going into his sixth year with the district. He leaves behind a wife, parents, a brother and a sister.
