KENTWOOD, Mich. — Police are investigating a shooting that happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday in a parking lot outside J.C. Penney at Woodland Mall.
Several suspects are sought in connection with that shooting. No injuries have been reported.
Witnesses told police they saw the suspects’ vehicle drive away from the scene, but no clear description was provided.
Shoppers like Martha Orellana were surprised to leave the mall and see police cars in the parking lot.
“Just a few security guards going through trash, and we were kind of confused, and we walked out and saw the cop cars, and so, definitely nerve-wracking,” she said.
Diamond Jachim said it makes her think twice about her safety while holiday shopping.
“It’s definitely scary to think that it is just right outside,” she said. “What if we would have been walking out when this happened?”
Police also found a bullet hole at the Gold and Silver Exchange, a store in the mall complex but far from the first shooting scene.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance cameras to see if that will lead them to the shooters. Kentwood police are asking anyone with any information about this incident to call them 616-698-6580.
