BENTON HARBOR, Mich – Detectives with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety are awaiting autopsy results to help determine a cause of death for a man found dead in the St. Joseph River on Saturday.

An area diving club called the Michigan Underwater Divers Club discovered the body of 34-year-old Dewayne Charles Flowers of Benton Harbor in an underwater depression between rocks behind the Chase Bank Building along the St. Joseph River.

The Berrien County Dive Team was called in to retrieve Flowers, who was taken to the County Morgue.  There were no apparent signs of injuries to his body, but the case remains under investigation.

Detectives say Flowers was last seen by family members on November 10th, but had not been reported missing.  He was listed as a parole absconder by the Michigan Department of Corrections as of November 9th.

It’s not clear how long Flowers had been in the water.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts in the last couple weeks is urged to contact the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety Detective Bureau at 269-927-8448.
