BELMONT, Mich. — A fundraiser was held Wednesday at Flo’s Pizzeria to benefit the family of 18-year-old Elizabeth Batchelder.
Batchelder was allegedly beaten by 22-year-old Adam Phillips Nov. 5. Phillips appeared before a judge Wednesday charged with attempted murder.
Batchelder’s family said that she remains in a coma, and they are anxiously awaiting for her to regain consciousness.
Her grandmother, Jo Ann Smith, has been taking care of her 1-year-old daughter Kyrie since her hospitalization. Smith said that the family was aware of abuse in the relationship with her child’s father, and hope others learn from her mistake.
“Don’t wait until it’s too late because it can happen to you. You can find yourself watching her lay there and hoping everyday she is going to wake up, but she doesn’t, ” Smith said.
