GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two people of interest have been taken into custody in the killing of a Grand Rapids businessman.
A source close to the investigation told FOX 17 Wednesday afternoon the pair are not suspects at this time, but are being held.
John Dahlinger, 56, was killed in his home on the northeast side of Grand Rapids in October.
Investigators said Dahlinger’s girlfriend came home to find him dead in the home they shared. She then called 911. Neighbors said Dahlinger and girlfriend Melanie Yanchuck lived at their home on Krislin Drive for a number of years.
Autopsy results revealed that Dahlinger was shot in the head, assaulted and suffered a heart attack before he died.
Neighbors said it appeared he was brutally beaten, and there was no sign of a break-in.
“Melanie was overcome with grief,” said Marty Staal, friend and Neighbor. “It’s shocking, shocking to the neighborhood.”
