WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — Parts of West Michigan had some wind damage with the severe weather that rolled through Sunday afternoon. The winds are still quite strong even now after the severe weather threat is over.

Around 8pm, the wind gusted to 63 miles per hour in Grand Rapids and 60 miles per hour in Ionia. For these locations, it was the strongest wind all day. Other areas had the strongest wind during the thunderstorms. Both Kalamazoo and Battle Creek had wind gusts of 70 miles per hour. To put this in perspective, hurricane-force winds are 74 miles per hour.

The wind will continue to be strong all night. This image from our in-house computer model, Future Track, shows sustained winds and wind gusts at 3am. All of West Michigan is under a high wind warning until 4AM.
