MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. — Marine Veteran Joshua Hoffman has been bound to a wheelchair ever he was hit by gunfire while serving in Iraq six years ago.

Hoffman told the American Legion Post 305 in Caledonia that he needed a new garage to fit two vehicles and an ATV.  Hoffman said that his handicap equipped van requires extra space because of its medical lift.

About two dozen volunteers showed up to help on Saturday morning.

“He was very excited and stoked about this today. He was anxious to get up and come out and see the guys and see the progress. He’s incredibly grateful for everything they do him there,” said Hoffman’s caretaker Brenda Johncock.

The group plans to have the garage finished by the end of November.
