Two-Time Hastings Sex Offender Arrested on New Charges

HASTINGS, Mich. — A 50-year-old sex offender from Hastings was arrested Friday after an almost two-month investigation led to new charges.

Theodore Gerald Baker is currently lodged at the Barry County Jail on two charges of third-degree and one charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. According to a release, deputies began investigating him on these charges on Aug. 30.

According to the Michigan Sex Offender registry, Baker has two previous sex crime convictions, both involving minors.  In 2001, he was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 years old.   In 1991, he was also convicted of attempted third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person between 13 and 15 years of age.

Details about these latest charges were not available.  Baker is currently being held on a $200,000 bond.
