HOLLAND, Mich.- It all started as a simple hobby while vacationing as snowbirds in Texas.
A pair of sisters from West Michigan started sewing hats for cancer patients in need. When they came back from their winter vacations they wanted to continue the project and decided to form a group here.
The Chemo Caps group now meets every Thursday at Christ Memorial Church in Holland from 1-3:30 p.m. to make the hats but they do take a break for their winter getaways. They have six different designs and provide caps to cancer patients at five different West Michigan hospitals and cancer centers.
The group relies solely on donations of fabrics which includes cotton, knits and fleece.
The women started their project in June 2012 and since then have made more than 1,500 hats.
