LOWELL, Mich. — Friends and family of one of the victims killed in a drunk driving crash earlier this month gathered Thursday night to remember her.

Twenty-year-old Andrea Herrera and her boyfriend Eric Fischer were killed Oct. 10 after being hit by a vehicle that police say was driven by Joseph Ford. He’s accused of driving under the influence and causing both of their deaths.

Andrea’s high school friend Mariah Moore said that friends and family wanted the vigil to not only honor Andrea’s life, but also want to raise awareness about drunk driving.

Mariah calls her friend’s death preventable, and said that too many people just like Andrea lose their lives because drunk driving.

“I’ve had you know Grandparents, older people die in my life, but I’ve never had a friend, a classmate, a peer. Someone my age, 20-years-old pass away like that, and to have it so tragic in the way that it was. My heart truly goes out to her family,” Moore said.
