Van Buren Gas Leak CrashGENEVA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A quarter-mile radius around a Van Buren County gas line was evacuated Monday after a 19-year-old crashed his car into it and caused a major leak.

The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of County Road 687 in Geneva Township.  Van Buren deputies say that slick roads and snowfall are believed to have been a factor, but that no one was injured.

After the line was shut off just after 9 a.m., residents were allowed back into their homes.  Repair crews remained on scene for several hours to repair the line.
