Posted

DETROIT — The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Detroit Lions 27-24 at Ford Field when Mike Nugent kicked a 54-yard field goal as time expired.

The Bengals took advantage of a shanked punt by Lions punter Sam Martin to get the win. With 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Martin hooked a punt just 28 yards to the Cincinnati 49 yard-line. Two quick passes by Andy Dalton put the Bengals in field goal territory.

Cincinnati led for most of the afternoon. Detroit scored on three touchdown passes from Matthew Stafford and one David Akers field goal. Stafford found Brandon Pettigrew for the first score and Calvin Johnson for the other two.

Stafford finished with 357 yards on 28-of-51 passing. Johnson had nine receptions for 155 yards and the two touchdowns.

Detroit falls to 4-3 on the season while Cincinnati improves to 5-2. The Lions host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FOX 17.
