Posted

DETROIT — The Tigers bats finally came to life and Max Scherzer pitched two innings out of the bullpen to lead Detroit to a Game 4 win over the Oakland A’s in the ALDS 8-6.

Jhonny Peralta hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game up 3-3. Victor Martinez hit a solo home run in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. Austin Jackson gave the Tigers their first lead since Game 1 with a broken bat base-hit also in the seventh to put Detroit up 5-4.

After Max Scherzer got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the eighth, Detroit scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to go up 8-4. Joaquin Benoit gave up two runs in the ninth, but finished the game allowing Detroit to avoid elimination.

With the Boston Red Sox finishing off the Tampa Bay Rays in the other ALDS on Tuesday, the Tigers and A’s ALDS Game 5 will now start at 8:07 p.m. EDT in Oakland on Thursday. The game will be televised on TBS.
