PARIS, Mich. — Two-year-old Amber Smith was found alive and safe Wednesday less than a mile from her Newaygo County home.
The toddler was located in Manistee National Forest by members of the DNR and National Forest Service. More than 200 people, including emergency crews and volunteers, assisted in the search for her Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Police say she is alert and talking to responders.
Diane Smith, Amber’s mother, said in a press conference just before 4 p.m. Wednesday that Amber only has minor cuts and scrapes and they hope to bring her home Thursday. The first thing she asked for after being found was hot chocolate.
Amber Smith went missing at 2 p.m. Tuesday after wandering away from her home on 13 Mile and Cottonwood Avenue in Barton Township.
