kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 20-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested following a home invasion in Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a home invasion in progress at 3:46 a.m. on Oct. 7.

They were called to the 1100 block of Hillcrest, where the homeowners woke up to noises in the house as well as the smell of cigarette smoke. They found that the back sliding door was open and a purse was missing.

Police found the suspect trying to run, and after a chase, he was arrested in the woods just East of the 110 block of Howards Street. Police say the suspect broke into three other homes in the area, and had a backpack with electronic items that were returned to their owners.

The suspect was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail, and was charged with home invasion, resisting and obstructing arrest, and possession of stolen property.
