KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 54-year-old woman was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon, and her death is being treated as a homicide, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Few details have been released, but the woman’s body was discovered at a home on the 1400 block of Church Street. Police responded around 4 p.m.
Aaliyah Buchanan said she saw the police presence, along with a woman leaving the home who was yelling frantically.
“Someone had killed her mother,” Aaliyah Buchanan, a witness recalled.
Neighbors said young kids were also leaving the home. According to witnesses, the woman indicated that a man had stabbed her mother multiple times.
Police said a 28-year-old from Benton Harbor was the last person seen with the woman. That person was located a short time later, and they are being questioned by investigators.
A neighbor told FOX 17 that the people who live in the home have resided there for about four months. About a month ago, they learned that the home had been broken into.
Sunday’s homicide has given Buchanan a new perspective on life. “God is the answer. We need to pray more and get right and know that tomorrow is not promised,” she said.
