Bicyclist Struck By Car

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich- One man is in the hospital after being struck by a car late Friday night.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department,  Albert Sowers III, 23, from Allendale, was riding a bike in the middle of the road, when Mason Blackmere, a 21-year-old driver, from Allendale was travelling northbound and hit him with his car. The accident happened on Laker Lane, south of Pierce Street in Georgetown Township around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Sowers’ bicycle had no lights and only a rear reflector, according to deputies. He suffered shoulder injuries and was transported to Spectrum Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
