MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 1-0 to win their third straight AL Central Division title. And they locked it up with just the first two batters on Wednesday night.

Austin Jackson led off the game with a standup triple, and Torii Hunter followed that up with an RBI base-hit to center to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Max Scherzer (21-3) would make it hold up with seven innings pitched allowing just 2 hits while striking out 10. Joaquin Benoit worked a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for his 24th save.

It’s the first time in franchise history that the Tigers have won three consecutive division titles. The Tigers will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series in Miami starting Friday.
