Mt. PLEASANT, Mich. — According to the Michigan State Police on September 16 at approximately 5:53 pm, State Police responded to a report of a car vs. pedestrian crash on Meridian Rd at Baseline Rd in Isabella County. Upon arrival, it was determined a bicyclist had been struck by a green Chevrolet Blazer travelling southbound on Meridian Rd. The 38-year-old Mt. Pleasant man driving the vehicle was not hurt. Witnesses indicated the bicyclist failed to yield right of way when it entered the intersection from westbound Baseline Rd.
The 16-year-old male bicyclist was transported from the scene by MMR ambulance personnel to McLaren Hospital and was then flown by Life Flight helicopter to Hurley Hospital in Flint, MI. The bicyclist passed away from his injuries on Tuesday September 17.
A Initial investigation showed the bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The matter is being investigated further by MSP crash investigators to determine if speed was a factor in the crash. The names of the involved parties are being withheld at this time.
